Transport Canada has published several car recalls in Canada from manufacturers including Nissan, Honda, Ford and Mercedes-Benz, to name a few. The recalls are due to a number of health and safety risks posed to both drivers and passengers of the affected vehicles.

From issues involving faulty seat belt pretensioners with missing rivets and high pressure fuel pumps and problems with the driver's seat and software, the federal department is urging Canadian drivers and car owners to verify if their vehicles are among those that have been recalled across Canada and is further instructing on which steps to take in order to fix the issue(s) concerning the ongoing recall.

Here is the complete list of the seven recalled cars flagged by Transport Canada:

Honda

Recalled Cars:

  • Honda Accord 2023 and 2024
  • Honda HR-V 2023 and 2024

Recall Reason: Some vehicles may have seat belt pretensioners with missing rivets, potentially compromising their effectiveness in a crash. In the case of Accord models, only the driver's side pretensioner might be affected, while both the driver's and passenger's side pretensioners in HR-V models could be impacted, per Transport Canada.

What You Need To Do: Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the seat belt pretensioner(s).

Fiat-Chrysler

Recalled Cars:

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee 2014 to 2020
  • RAM 1500 2014 to 2020

Recall Reason: In some vehicles featuring a 3.0-litre diesel engine, there is a potential issue with the high-pressure fuel pump that may lead to failure. Issues include altered engine performance, the possibility of a fuel leak, and the illumination of the malfunction indicator lamp and/or service electronic throttle control tell-tale. Acording to Transport Canada, this could result in an abrupt loss of engine power during operation.

What You Need To Do: FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the high-pressure fuel pump.

Ford

Recalled Cars:

  • Ford Fusion 2019 and 2020

Recall Reason: Per the federal department, in specific Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), the high-voltage battery energy control module faces a potential risk of damage. In the event of such damage, there may be a loss of power to the wheels or the control module could experience overheating.

What You Need To Do: Ford will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

Volvo

Recalled Cars:

  • Volvo XC90 2015 to 2024

Recall Reason: In certain vehicles, the bolts securing the second-row seat belt buckles may not have been adequately tightened. This deficiency could lead to the seat belts becoming loose or detaching in the event of a crash, per Transport Canada.

What You Need To Do: Volvo will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, tighten the second-row seat belt buckle attachment bolts.

Nissan

Recalled Cars:

  • Infiniti QX60 2022, 2023 and 2024

Recall Reason: According to Transport Canada, under specific circumstances, a software issue within the adaptive front-light system (AFS) may result in the misalignment of the headlamps during driving. Improperly aimed headlamps pose a risk by reducing visibility and increasing the likelihood of a collision.

What You Need To Do: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reprogram the intelligent power distribution module.

BMW

Recalled Cars:

  • BMW X4 2023
  • BMW 8 Series 2023
  • BMW 3 Series 2023
  • BMW X5 2023
  • BMW X3 2023
  • BMW Z4 2023
  • BMW X6 2023
  • BMW 4 Series 2023
  • BMW 2 Series 2023

Recall Reason: In specific vehicles, there is a potential issue with the integrated transmission control unit (ITCU) not being adequately sealed. This could lead to transmission oil leakage into the unit, resulting in the possibility of the transmission gears seizing. Such an occurrence may lead to a loss of power to the wheels. Per Transport Canada, a loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.

What You Need To Do: BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the ITCU.

Mercedes-Benz

Recalled Cars:

  • Mercedes-Benz GLE Class 2021 and 2022

Recall Reason: In certain vehicles, there is a concern that the bolt securing the 12V ground connection beneath the driver's seat might not have been appropriately tightened. This oversight could lead to the connection becoming loose and potentially overheating, per Transport Canada.

What You Should Do: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, repair the 12V ground connection.
