Denis Coderre Is Beating Valérie Plante In An Early Montreal Mayoral Election Poll

Looks like it's going to be another face-off!

A new poll by Mainstreet Research shows that former Montreal mayor Denis Coderre — who recently announced he's running again in the upcoming municipal election — is leading the race against Valérie Plante.

Forty percent of respondents said they intend to vote for Coderre, compared to 24% for Plante.

However, 54% of respondents also said they were satisfied with Mayor Plante.

And only 11% of respondents said they were planning to vote for a third option — meaning it's probably going to be a two-candidate race, or "clash of titans" as Maclean's put it.

Since 25% of respondents are undecided, numbers could swing either way between now and November — and while Coderre's lead is notable, Maclean's says it's comparable to his electoral lead in 2017 when he lost the election to Plante.
