Public health has prioritized two new groups of vulnerable Quebecers who can receive a COVID-19 vaccine dose ahead of the general population, Health Minister Christian Dubé announced in a press conference on April 22.

The new groups include people with intellectual and physical disabilities as well as those with chronic illnesses. This includes Quebecers on the autism spectrum.

Dubé said "chronic illness" applies to Quebecers with chronic illnesses — like diabetes and respiratory issues — who do not necessarily need regular follow-ups with their doctors. He said you can show a prescription as proof of your illness.

The province also prioritized obese Quebecers for a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in Quebec.

Vaccine appointments for Quebecers with disabilities will begin on April 28, while those with chronic illnesses can make an appointment as of April 23.
