Heat warnings persist across Canada on Tuesday, including Montreal, where Environment Canada says the humidex value could approach 40.

The federal weather agency says the "warm and humid air mass" sitting on the southern part of the province will linger until Wednesday.

Meanwhile, heat warnings cover almost the whole of western Canada.

In Lytton, British Columbia, Environment Canada recorded an all-time national record-high temperature of 47.9 C.

In its warning for the city of Calgary, the agency calls the western heat wave "prolonged, dangerous, and historic."

The Tuesday forecast calls for a high of 30 C with a humidex value of 37 in Montreal.
