People Are Leaving Bad Reviews For Olivier Primeau's Restaurant & It's Not Even Open Yet

Beachclub owner Olivier Primeau is making headlines due to buzz around his new pizzeria Slice Gang.

But it's not the foodies that are raving about the pizza just yet. Instead, some individuals are complaining about the English name and quality of the food. The thing is, the restaurant hasn't even opened yet.

No one in Quebec is complaining about the 90% of restaurant names that aren't in French.

Originally set for winter 2020, the opening of Slice Gang was pushed back to May 2021 due to the pandemic, Narcity Québec reports.

But that little detail hasn't deterred a number of people from leaving negative comments for the restaurant on Google, with many taking aim at the name and invoking Bill 101, the Charter of the French Language.

Others are leaving five-star reviews to counter the negative.

In a statement shared with MTL Blog, Primeau defended the restaurant, saying its name is "more a slogan than anything else."

He said it's "purely marketing."

"Once again I'm being attacked because some people don't like me because I'm successful and my father was there before me," he continued.

"But for English names, no one in Quebec is complaining about 90% of restaurant names that aren't in French, but because I'm known it's easier to put an image to the names of my restaurants."

He made clear he has not considered changing the name. 

Slice Gang opens in May 2021 in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec.
