The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Quebec's Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation (MAPAQ) have recalled several grocery items for reasons that could pose a serious health and safety risk to Canadian consumers.
The federal agency is recalling the affected food items for reasons including yeast, microbial contamination and the presence of pieces of plastic, to name a few. The CFIA is investigating the ongoing food recalls and verifying that the affected products are being properly removed from the marketplace.
Here are six grocery store foods to look out for:
Hummus

Recall Reason: Per the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Adonis brand Classic Hummus was recalled due to the presence of yeast.
What You Need To Do: Consumers in Ontario and Quebec should "not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product."
Gluten-free muffins

Recall Reason: Lakeview Gluten-Free Bakery brand Morning Glory Muffins were recalled due to undeclared eggs.
What You Need To Do: Consumers with an egg allergy should dispose of or return the recalled product to its point of purchase, per Health Canada.
Smoked sausage sticks

Recall Reason: The affected veggie burger product is being recalled from the marketplace because it contains gluten which is not declared on the label.
What You Need To Do: According to the CFIA, Canadian consumers who suffer from celiac disease or other gluten-related conditions should refrain from consuming the recalled product as it could lead to a severe or life-threatening response. Avoid serving, utilizing, selling, or distributing any recalled items. If you do have the recalled items, you should dispose of them or return them to their place of purchase.
Chili peppers

Recall Reason: Dion brand Granulated Chipotle Chili Peppers have been recalled due to the presence of insects, per the CFIA.
What You Need To Do: According to the federal health department, Canadian consumers should "not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected products."
Soft cheese

Recall Reason: The cheese product is being recalled across Quebec due to microbial contamination. According to MAPAQ, food poisoning caused by staphylococci is characterized by a sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps and diarrhea. Symptoms usually appear 30 minutes to eight hours after eating contaminated food and disappear after 24 hours.
What You Need To Do: Anyone in possession of the product is advised not to consume it. They should return it to the establishment where they bought it or throw it away. The recalled product was sold at Fromagerie du Vieux St-François, located at 4740, boul. des Mille-Îles in Laval.

Recall Reason: The smoked salmon is being recalled as the best-before dates listed on the packaging do not meet the adequate requirements.
What You Need To Do: Individuals who have the recalled smoked salmon product are urged to refrain from consuming it if it has been packaged for over 14 days, per MAPAQ. Instead, they should either return it to the original store of purchase or dispose of it. Despite the absence of apparent spoilage or suspicious odours, consumption of the product may still pose health hazards.
