Health Canada has recalled several laundry detergent products sold across Canada as they may pose a serious health and safety risk to Canadian consumers and children, in particular.

The consumer product recall was initially published on April 5, 2024, and involves several Tide and Gain products. Health Canada is currently investigating the recall and is verifying that the affected items are being properly removed from the marketplace.

What You Need To Know: The recall involves Tide PODS and Gain Flings that are identified in the list below.

  • Gain Flings Moonlight Breeze | 16 pacs bag | UPC 37000 867517
  • Tide PODS 3-in-1 Clean Breeze | 31 pacs bag | UPC 37000 509622
  • Tide PODS 3-in-1 Spring Meadow | 31 pacs bag | UPC 37000 509608

According to Health Canada, the recalled product's packaging has the potential to be affected by a manufacturing defect. The defect ultimately renders the child-resistant packaging as "damaged" or "inoperable."

Due to the lack of child-resistant packaging, unintentional exposure to these laundry detergent products could lead to serious illness or injury, the federal health agency indicated on the recall warning page.

Important Details: The company reported that 56,741 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between September 2023 to February 2024.

As of April 2, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. The affected lots are currently being removed from shelves across Canada. However, it is still recommended to verify if you have any of the recalled items.

What You Need To Do: Per Health Canada, consumers should immediately secure the recalled product out of sight and reach of children and contact Procter & Gamble. A pre-paid gift card, a cabinet latch and an empty replacement bag with a child-resistant closure will be provided to impacted consumers.

For more information, consumers can contact Procter & Gamble at 1-833-347-5764, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST, Saturday or online at tide.ca/bags or ilovegain.com/bags (English) and tide.ca/sacs or jadoregain.ca/sacs (French).

Consumers must provide a photo of the barcode and the lot number, which can be found on the bottom of the bag.

Keep Reading: Health Canada has also recalled several other consumer products including handheld massagers, vacuums, steamers, laptop adapters, iPhone chargers, USB ports, baby items, medications, air fryers and several cleaning products sold across Canada.
