The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled a mushroom product sold across grocery stores in Quebec and Ontario. The class one food recall was first triggered on March 26, 2024, following CFIA test results.

The CFIA has also indicated that the recalled mushrooms may also have been sold in other provinces and territories across Canada. The recall warns that the affected food product is being removed from the marketplace due to microbial contamination.

What You Need To Know: An Enoki brand mushroom is currently being removed across Quebec and Ontario (and possibly other regions across Canada) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

What Is Being Done: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products, per the recall warning.

The CFIA is also verifying that the industry is properly and effectively removing the recalled mushroom products from the marketplace. According to the federal health agency, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product as of March 27, 2024.

What You Need To Do: The CFIA is urging Canadian consumers to verify if they have the recalled Enoki mushroom product. If so, they should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased. Furthermore, if you think you've become sick from consuming the recalled product, it's recommended by the CFIA to contact your healthcare provider.

The health department also highlighted the symptoms to watch for associated with Listeria contamination. According to the CFIA, "food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness."
