Green minty sludge? No thanks.

Despite being around since the 1970s, I've yet to get my hands on a Shamrock Shake…until now.

McDonald's Canada has officially dropped the annual Shamrock Shake in celebration of St Patrick's Day.

Made up of creamy vanilla Soft Serve blended with McDonald's minty Shamrock Shake syrup, the limited-time-only drink sounds delicious but its taste did not measure up.

I opted for a small-sized Shamrock Shake, considering I didn't know if I'd like it or not. However, considering my love for all things minty, whether it be a handful of After Eights, mint-chocolate-chip ice cream or mint-flavoured Gaviscon to offset the effects of the After Eights and mint-choco-chip ice cream, I figured I'd love every sip.

I was wrong.

Described as "minty, refreshing and tasty," the Shamrock Shake was definitely minty, but refreshing and tasty? That's a no from me.

It took only one sip for my expression to go from intrigued to disgusted. While the shake was, in fact, creamy, it was so creamy and so minty that I felt as if I'd just taken a sip directly out of a Colgate tube of toothpaste.

With no other ingredient to compliment the minty flavour, all you're essentially drinking is a creamy mint mixture, and while I am sure that there are loads of people out there who would love the texture and flavour, I simply am not one of them.

I took about three to four more sips of the Shamrock Shake since it sometimes takes a few tries before truly enjoying something, whether it be a new song, flick or in this case, a minty milkshake. Well, after a few straw-full gulps of the frappé, it's safe to say that the Shamrock Shake is not made for my palate.

I was met with an unpleasant aftertaste each and every time and could not get past the toothpaste aspect, which completely turned me off from trying anymore.

The remainder of the beverage was met with the bottom of my kitchen sink. Oddly enough, watching the green cream disappear into the drain was the most enjoyable moment of trying the Shamrock Shake.

Sorry not sorry, McDonald's.

Keep Reading: We've also tried a handful of other McDonald's menu items including the McRib, the new BBQ burger, and the cookie dough McFlurry. MTL Blog has even compared McDonald's iced coffee, breakfast sandwiches and wraps with other fast food spots including Tim Hortons, Wendy's, A&W and Starbucks, to name a few.
