The only thing that's better than a Montreal poutine…is a free Montreal poutine.

Fans of the signature Quebec dish — made up of three ingredients, and three ingredients only: French fries, cheese curds and gravy — can score a free poutine for one day only this month in celebration of an iconic Montreal restaurant.

On April 20, Montrealers can get their hands on a free poutine to ring in Chef On Call's 15th anniversary. Located on av. du Parc in Downtown Montreal, Chef On Call is known for serving up classic homestyle food available for dine-in, takeout or delivery.

Now, after 15 years of business, the Montreal restaurant (and its two other locations in Waterloo and London, ON) is giving away 500 poutines at each spot — that's a whopping 1,500 free poutines thanks to Chef On Call.

The concept first began back in 2009 when a bunch of friends from Concordia and McGill grew tired of the same old disappointing food deliveries during their late-night hangouts. So, they began cooking up delicious meals in their student apartment and delivering them to hungry folks across Montreal.

MTL Blog spoke with Chef On Call, who immediately gushed about the ongoing support from their loyal customers. "Without the support of our home town we wouldn’t be able to give out 1500 poutines across all 3 stores," the restaurant said.

"It’s crazy when u think about it. We started chef on call on a four-burner oven, in our apartment." Now, with three locations across two provinces, Chef On Call has become a staple to the Montreal food scene and it's safe to say a celebration is very much in order.

The free poutine festivities will begin at 12 p.m. until each restaurant runs out. While 500 poutines may go fast, you can still get in on the action at 4:20 p.m. with a piñata party and cake slicing.

Bonne fête, Chef On Call.
