In an April 15 tweet, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante said COVID-19 vaccination in Montreal isn't going as smoothly as the city would like.

The mayor tweeted that there are many vaccine appointments still available in the city, and walk-ins have almost no wait, meaning many Montrealers aren't lining up for their first dose.

"If you are eligible, go get vaccinated now," Plante tweeted.

Quebec's minister of health, Christian Dubé, echoed Plante's sentiments in a tweet on April 16, reminding people that the AstraZeneca vaccine is "a way for people over 55 to speed up their vaccination."

He said that over the weekend of April 17, more than 20,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses would be available for eligible Montrealers — with or without appointments.
