After a long pause, Air Transat is ready to start flying again and Montrealers are going to be happy. The airline is going to gradually open direct flights from the city to 13 destinations in Europe, Mexico, Florida, and the Caribbean. Air Transat flights will begin to take off starting July 23.

Montrealers looking for a European vacation will be able to fly directly to Athens, Bordeaux, Lisbon, Lyon, Nantes, Marseille, Paris, and Toulouse.

There's also an option to fly via Toronto to Athens, Glasgow, London, Manchester, Porto, and Rome.

Travellers desperate for some time in the sun can head to Cayo Coco, Cancun, Fort Lauderdale, Punta Cana, and Port-au-Prince.

Domestic vacations are also a possibility, with flights between Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver.

Air Transat suggests that its flight schedule could expand even further in September and October depending on travel restrictions.

The company is also "offering more flexibility to travellers whose flights are scheduled to operate this summer" with new cancellation and flight switching policies.

According to a press release, "customers who booked before March 4, 2020, can change their travel dates, destination or package at no charge up to seven days before departure.

"If they prefer to cancel their trips instead, they will be able to obtain a travel credit valid for 24 months.

"Customers who booked on or after March 4," meanwhile, "can make the same changes at no charge up to 24 hours before departure. If they prefer to cancel their trips instead, they will be able to obtain a travel credit valid for 12 months."

To keep customers safe and healthy on board, the company is enforcing rigorous procedures using "hospital-grade disinfectant" for frequently-touched surfaces and "electrostatic disinfectant" for the entire aircraft every 24 hours.

"After these long months that put the entire tourism industry to the test, we are very happy to announce today the resumption of our operations," Annick Guérard, Chief Operating Officer of Transat, said in the statement.
