Royalmount Montreal's opening day is fast approaching, as the luxury shopping complex prepares to start serving customers as early as next week.

But did you know that in addition to 170+ stores and retail concepts, Montreal's new mega-mall is set to include around 60 restaurants — some of which will be located in Le Fou Fou, a gourmet, European-style food hall featuring 12 culinary offerings, four bars, an in-house catering service and over 900 seats?!

Le Fou Fou has recently made several exciting announcements, including its opening date and full roster of bars and restaurants. It has also outlined how a state-of-the-art "multi-basket ordering system" will be used by customers. We have all those details for you, as well as photos and renderings of what Le Fou Fou will look like, below.

When is Le Fou Fou opening?

Le Fou Fou, like the rest of Royalmount, is currently slated to open on Thursday, September 5. It is set to be located in Royalmount's "luxury row."

Responsible for building and designing Le Fou Fou — a 30,000 square foot space — architecture firm LemayMichaud has infused the food hall with "classical French design elements" and a signature twist of "vibrant and unexpected DNA," a press release says, noting that the materials are meant to invoke an elegantly lived-in feel mixed with edgy, urban elements like polished concrete.

LemayMichaud partner and architect Anne-Marie Bouliane described her team's approach as "breaking the rules to develop our own version of modernity," rather than focusing on classical lines.

"Inspired by Biophilia, which translates to 'love of life,' [...] Le Fou Fou is bursting with plant life and timeless shades of green that blend with the outdoors and facilitate connectivity. The design includes a heated floor for the terrace overlooking the piazza," reads the release.

"Upon entering the space, guests are welcomed with bright natural light bouncing off sophisticated bistro-style dining areas, intended for lingering and people-watching. In the evening, visitors are embraced by a more moody and intimate space where they can indulge in everything from desserts to nightcaps."

Which restaurants and bars will be part of Le Fou Fou?

Here's the complete list of bar and restaurant concepts set to make up Le Fou Fou, as confirmed by the food hall's PR team:

  • Tori Ramen by Hanhak Kim of Otto Bar
  • PRIME Beef Bar by Lenny Lighter of Moishe's
  • Bayswater raw bar & Kishu sushi bar by James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Messina of UNI Boston
  • Hogar taqueria by the Torres brothers
  • Il Miglio by Chef Claude Pelletier
  • Eva’s all-day café by Shaw Kash
  • Le Lucky Belly, comptoir asiatique by the Lucky Belly Group
  • Tiramisu artisanal pizza by Chef Chanthy Yen
  • Spirulina health bar by Jessica Power and Olivia Farruggia
  • Le Taj Indian cuisine by Chef Kabir Kapoor
  • Exchange Marché du Café offering local roasts complemented by Hof Kelsten pastries
  • Bar Sucré, desserts by the slice complemented with post-dinner cocktails
  • Wine & tapas bar, offering uniquely Fou Fou wine flights and bites from À la table by Hanna
  • Le Fou Fou’s cocktail bar

What makes Le Fou Fou so high-tech?

Le Fou Fou is expected to be high-tech thanks to its innovative "multi-basket ordering system," which it teamed up with Lightspeed and 5Loyalty to create, according to a press release.

Unlike traditional food courts, which operate as a collection of completely independent restaurants, Le Fou Fou will integrate all of its vendors onto a single ordering platform.

Are you craving sushi while your kids want pizza and tacos? You can order everything from Le Fou Fou at once, resulting in one bill.

In person, this means customers can use a QR code to order from several kiosks at the same time — without the hassle of waiting in different lines. If ordering for home delivery, the whole order will only have one delivery charge.

What about restaurants that won't be housed in Le Fou Fou?

So far, Olive et Gourmando, Le Poké Station and Ganadara have confirmed to MTL Blog that they will be unveiling new branches at Royalmount.
