Say goodbye to a big piece of East End Montreal history. Place Versailles, an indoor shopping mall that's been around for over 60 years, is officially getting demolished — and the replacement is going to look nothing like it.

As reported by Connect CRE, on May 12, the Montreal city council gave the green light to a $2.2 billion redevelopment project that will completely transform the site into a new residential and commercial neighbourhood.

Located at the intersection of Autoroutes 15 (Décarie) and 40 (Métropolitaine), Royalmount opened the doors to its vast luxury mega-mall last week. While the glamorous unveiling has left the city buzzing with excitement, one of the shopping centre's features has not been generating as much enthusiasm: parking fees.

Over the past week or so, customers have discovered that Royalmount only offers paid parking on-site. This means that if you drive to Royalmount, you'll have to pull out your wallet before you can even think about browsing Rennaï, Michael Kors, Versace, Jimmy Choo or Canada Goose.

Exciting news for local shopaholics. Starting in spring 2024, you'll find some renowned luxury stores never before seen in la belle province. Developers unveiled the first lessees Montreal's mega-mall Royalmount project in early November, including a series of fancy retailers.

Louis Vuitton and Gucci will make their dedicated brick-and-mortar debut in the Quebec shopping scene. They share stores with other brands elsewhere, but these will be their first stand-alone locations in the province, according to Royalmount.* The mall will also feature the province's first stand-alone RH homeware store.

A flashy new Simons just opened at the CF Fairview Pointe Claire shopping centre in the Montreal West Island. The 91,000-square-foot location — with 74,000 square feet of retail space — is the department store's 16th in Canada overall and 10th in Quebec.

The Pointe-Claire Simons is architecturally distinct, featuring a striking two-storey green-tiled entrance, as well as artwork throughout the store. What the company describes as a "monumental" collection of cloud sculptures by artist Brendan Tang hangs in one of the lobbies.
