Over the weekend, Premier François Legault posted a statement on Facebook that condemned hateful social media comments towards him and said that his team would report any threatening comments to the police.

"Every time I make a post now, I get a barrage of aggressive, sometimes even violent, comments, insults, obscenities and even threats," said the statement, "we have to do something about it."

The Service de police de la Ville de Montreal (SPVM) caused a stir on social media on January 13, when at least three people accused the SPVM Instagram account of deleting comments questioning its treatment of Montreal's homeless population.
