On October 1, 2022, COVID-19 testing requirements, quarantine and isolation rules, and the mandatory use of the ArriveCan app for travellers were axed entirely by the Government of Canada. However, one COVID-19 travel rule is now making a comeback for travellers from China.

The federal government released a statement on Saturday announcing a temporary rule requiring travellers arriving on flights originating from mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao to provide a negative COVID-19 test before entering Canada.

Are you still confused over certain COVID-19 isolation rules? Well, Quebec just made things easier. The Minister of Health Christian Dubé announced a brand new online self-assessment tool that clarifies isolation instructions according to different COVID-19 situations.

According to a recent Quebec press release the online tool provides "recommendation on the instructions to follow depending on whether the person has symptoms compatible with COVID-19 or has been in contact with a case that has been declared positive."

Chris Nilan might be most recognized for his time playing for the Montreal Canadiens back in the mid-80s. But now, the former NHL player is stirring up quite the controversy following his departure from Bell Media's radio show, Off The Cuff. Nilan claims he was fired from Montreal's TSN 690 for refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

In a post shared to Twitter on Thursday, Nilan said that he was ordered by Bell Media to get vaccinated. However, the mid-day radio host stated that he "decided not to take the shot" following consultation with his doctor and in light of unspecified medical conditions.

Another day, another COVID-19 rumour. Walmart Canada has shot down claims it was sticking unvaccinated pharmacy customers in plexiglass cubicles after photos of human-height plastic screens began circulating online.

Quebec began requiring stores with an area of at least 1,500 square metres, such as Walmart and Canadian Tire, to screen customers for their proof of vaccination on January 24. The only exceptions are stores that offer grocery and pharmacy services.

Yet another record has been broken for the daily COVID-19 cases in Quebec. On Wednesday, December 22, the Government of Quebec reported 6,361 new cases, a jump of 1,318 from yesterday's daily case count.

In Wednesday's data, 445 total hospitalizations were recorded — up 30 from the day prior — with 88 of those patients in intensive care.

For Montrealers, the biggest change might be the extension of alcohol service at restaurants and bars to 1 a.m. from midnight. Bars and microbreweries still have to close at 2 a.m., however.

Quebec is loosening some public health regulations on August 1, meaning that, starting at 12:01 a.m., you'll have an extra hour to order alcohol at Montreal bars.

As of Sunday morning, Quebec bars will be permitted to sell alcohol until 1 a.m. rather than midnight. But they must still close their doors at 2 a.m.
