montreal highway 40

Good luck getting to and from the South Shore this weekend. Mobilité Montréal, the metro area traffic management agency, is once again warning of "major" disruptions that could make Montreal traffic hellish this weekend, November 4 to 6. The organization is asking drivers to avoid some areas as a result.

In addition to the three-year partial closure of the Louis Hyppolite-La Fontaine Tunnel, closures on Route 132, on the Victoria Bridge and in the Saint-Pierre Interchange could make it difficult to travel between parts of the island and South Shore suburbs. Highway 40 will also be partially closed in the West Island.

Three people are in the hospital after a crash on an autoroute 40 service road in the Montreal borough of Anjou early Monday morning. According to preliminary information shared by police, one of the vehicles involved, a pickup truck carrying a trailer, was exiting a highway construction site at the time of the collision.

The incident occurred at around 2:45 a.m., when SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils says authorities received a 911 call about a crash between two vehicles on the eastbound service road near boulevard Langelier.

After months of construction and even some unfortunate setbacks, Highway 40 is taking another self-care break to receive asphalt work this weekend. For commuters, this means diversion to service roads and more traffic over the next few days, starting Friday at 11:30 p.m..

The affected area of the 40 is the entire eastbound section of road between Côte-de-Liesse and des Laurentides interchanges, which will be closed until 8 a.m. Sunday morning. If weather conditions are unfavourable (which doesn’t seem to be the forecast as of Thursday, August 18), the construction work could be postponed, promising future frustration from drivers across the city.

Montreal's construction-caused traffic won't be letting up this weekend. From July 8 to 10, not only will Highway 40 heading eastbound be blocked off between Côte-de-Liesse and des Laurentides for paving work, but Highway 25 will also be completely closed.

Drivers won't be able to take Highway 40 East between exit 65 for P.-E.Trudeau / A-520 / R-117 / Côte-de-Liesse / Boul. Marcel-Laurin and the entrance to Highway 15 southbound (for des Laurentides). Traffic will be detoured via the Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse service road.

You may remember that Montreal's Highway 40 was partially repaved in 2021, putting an end to construction on the dreadful roaring concrete rampart for the foreseeable future.

Haha, just kidding.

The Sûreté du Québec is investigating after a shooting on Autoroute 40 in Montreal left a man in his 20s injured Friday morning. He was transported to the hospital but his life is not in danger, an SQ spokesperson told MTL Blog.

Part of the eastbound section of the highway was closed for a few hours to make way for a forensic team's sweep of the area. It reopened at around 6:30 a.m.
