Shots rang out at a Starbucks beside Highway 440 in Laval on Wednesday morning. The incident left two people injured and resulted in one death, according to a new report from Le Journal de Montréal.

Police have since established a large perimeter around the site.

A CBC report, citing Radio-Canada sources, identified the victim as Charalambos Theologou, better known as Bobby the Greek. According to CBC, two other people injured in the shooting were members of his gang, the Chomedey Greeks

Theologou, who has several criminal offences on his record dating back to the early 2000s, was reportedly hit with multiple bullets while inside the Starbucks. Two suspects allegedly opened fire on him using submachine guns.

"Everything points to it being an act linked to organized crime," said Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière in an X post, urging people with information to contact Sûreté du Québec.

"This is completely unacceptable, to have violence like this in a public space, in plain daylight," said Laval mayor Stéphane Boyer in an afternoon press conference. "My thoughts are with the clients and employees who were on the scene.

At the same press conference, Laval's police chief, Pierre Brochet, said that local forces will increase their efforts to crack down on organized crime in the region. He also confirmed that he has been aware of Theologou for quite some time.

"Organized crime is a priority for me. It's a priority for Sûreté du Québec and the SPVM. And we're working very hard on an everyday basis to make arrests," Brochet noted.

With no suspects in custody yet, the investigation has been transferred from Laval Police to Sûreté du Québec.
