Time Out ranked the 50 Best Cities In The World In 2024 and Montreal and Vancouver managed to make the cut.

Time Out sent out its annual questionnaire, surveying city-dwellers from across the globe on what it's like to live, work and play in their hometowns right now.

"We also asked locals how their city makes them feel: are they happy there? Is it a beautiful place? Is it easy to make social connections? Their thousands of responses gave us a unique insight into the reality of living in the world’s greatest cities right now," Time Out indicated.

New York City came out on top, ranking first overall. Global cities such as Cape Town (2), Berlin (3), London (4) and Madrid (5) all made up the remainder of the top five of the best cities in the world.

So, how did Montreal and Vancouver do?

Montreal ranked 29th overall, which deserves praise considering the number of entries. "Combine one of the biggest cultural hubs in the world with old-school European architecture and cutting-edge design and you’ve got Montreal," Time Out said.

Montreal's acclaimed culinary landscape, avant-garde cocktail bars, and tens of cost-free family-friendly activities were spotlighted in the publication. Additionally, the city's vibrant atmosphere was celebrated through continuous festivals such as Igloofest and Montreal en Lumière, marking them as some of Canada's biggest outdoor winter events.

Vancouver made the ranking by the skin of its gorgeously maintained teeth — ranking 50th overall.

"Vancouver is the kind of city in which climbing a nearly three-kilometre mountain trail is considered a good time," Time Out said. While the West Coast city is known for its outdoor lifestyle, boasting activities such as hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, skiing and snowboarding, it's a bustling spot to visit during the summer months.

"Locals flock to beaches and events such as the Celebration of Light fireworks extravaganza, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and Khatsahlano, a street party in one of the city’s most photogenic neighbourhoods."

Not to mention, Vancouver is practically the unofficial sushi capital of the world, outside of Japan, of course. In fact, Vancouver's food scene is well worth eating through, especially considering Van City is home to nine one-Michelin-starred restaurants.

Wondering which other global cities made the ranking? Here's the complete top 10 of the Best Cities in the World in 2024, per Time Out:
