Montreal has much to celebrate after being ranked as one of the best cities in the world.
Time Out ranked the 50 Best Cities In The World In 2024 and only two Canadian destinations managed to make the cut. Time Out sent out its annual questionnaire, surveying city-dwellers from across the globe on what it's like to live, work and play in their hometowns right now.
"We also asked locals how their city makes them feel: are they happy there? Is it a beautiful place? Is it easy to make social connections? Their thousands of responses gave us a unique insight into the reality of living in the world’s greatest cities right now," Time Out indicated.
New York City came out on top, ranking first overall. Global cities such as Cape Town (2), Berlin (3), London (4) and Madrid (5) all made up the remainder of the top five of the best cities in the world.
So, how did Montreal score?
Montreal ranked 29th overall, which isn't too shabby considering the number of entries. "Combine one of the biggest cultural hubs in the world with old-school European architecture and cutting-edge design and you’ve got Montreal," Time Out said.
The publication highlighted Montreal's renowned food scene, cutting-edge cocktail spots and free family activities, as well as non-stop festivals including Igloofest and Montreal en Lumière — some of the largest outdoor winter events across Canada.
Vancouver also made the cut, making it the only other Canadian city to appear on the 2024 ranking. The West Coast destination took the final spot, ranking 50th overall.
