While Dion was known mainly within Canada and France at the time, the singer represented Switzerland at the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, performing a song in French titled Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi.
Despite hailing from Canada, Dion did not perform on behalf of the true north, which makes sense considering Canada is not a European country and therefore does not participate in the contest. However, as an emerging young French singer from Quebec, it appears Dion was a stellar choice to represent the Swiss.
Dion, who sported curly '80s hair and a white ensemble, took home the win at the 1988 competition, which is remembered for having one of the most exciting voting sequences in Eurovision history.

Dion beat runner-up Scott Fitzgerald, who represented the United Kingdom, by just a single point. Before the last vote, the U.K. entry was leading with 136 points to Switzerland's 131. However, everything changed after the country formerly known as Yugoslavia cast its final vote — awarding Switzerland six points.
For Dion, winning the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest marked a pivotal moment in her global journey. Her Eurovision victory helped propel her career to new heights. Following her win, Dion embarked on the creation of her inaugural English-language album, Unison.
