There's a new restaurant to check out in downtown Montreal. It’s a Korean hot dog place that’s serving up your favourite street food with a twist. MTL Blog’s Alex Melki headed out to learn what it’s all about at Chung Chun Rice Dog’s Montreal grand opening.
To celebrate the new eatery, located near Concordia University's downtown campus at 1418 rue Pierce, hot dogs were on sale for the low-low price of $2.99 on opening day, November 25, though there’s a limit of two per customer.

I just thought the food was delicious and when I got back to Montreal I was like "how do I get this" so I decided to open.

What sets a rice dog apart from your typical casse-croûte steamé is it comes dunked in sticky rice dough that is fermented for two hours every morning to make them “chewy and crispy,” stated a company spokesperson in an email.
They are then rolled in such original toppings as fried ramen noodles, breadcrumbs and crispy potatoes and are served on a stick.
This would technically categorize them as corn dogs, or pogos, but the company spokesperson was unconcerned with semantics. “You can either say corn dogs or hotdogs. It is totally up to the customers.”
You can also go with spicy sausages, an all-mozzarella rice dog and an option that’s half hot dog and half mozzarella cheese.
Then, the spokesperson said, you can personalize your dog by dusting it with a variety of seasonings and sauces, including sugar, honey butter, cheddar cheese, teriyaki, sweet and spicy mayo, BBQ, sweet chilli, honey mustard, or ketchup.
The spokesperson said vegetarian-friendly items would soon be added to the menu.
“We are planning to launch several new menus,” they stated. “For now, I can tell you that we are currently working on the veggie options for vegetarian customers.”
Beyond Korean takes on the classic street food, the restaurant's menu includes pineappleade and house coffee.
Since launching in 2019, Chung Chun Rice Dog has opened more than 200 branches in Korea, Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines before finally arriving in Canada this summer.
