A Montreal Vigil For Murdered & Missing Indigenous Women Is Happening Online Tonight
An online vigil will be held tonight to remember the murdered and missing Indigenous women, girls, trans, and two-spirited. October 4 is also La journée de commémoration des femmes et des filles autochtones disparues et assassinées/The National Day of Remembrance for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Due to the current pandemic, the event will be held online, with performances and special guests, including elders, artists and activists.
The event will be co-hosted by various groups in the city, including Centre for Gender Advocacy / Centre de lutte contre l'oppression des genres, Missing Justice - Justice pour les femmes autochtones disparues, and Iskweu.

The vigil is also a call to action to make changes since commissions, like The National Inquiry Inquiry into Missing Indigenous Women and Girls and the Viens Commission, were conducted with the necessary steps to help with this crisis.
"It's time to take stock, its recommendations, on how this genocide against indigenous communities can and must be stopped," the event page says.
Donations and profits from hoodie sales will also be collected and given to Iskweu, who help families that have been affected.
The event page acknowledges that Montreal is located on the traditional lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka: ka and Tiohtiá: ke Nations. Historically, the city was a meeting place for many First Nations Peoples.
