By next summer, there should be a whole new way to appreciate the beauty of the Laurentians — from the top of a 40-metre high observation tower complete with a 1,250-metre-long elevated walking trail amongst the trees.

According to an announcement by MRC des Laurentides, Erlebnis Akademie AG (EAK) has resumed construction on the project after pausing due to the pandemic.

EAK has built similar treetop walks around the world — including in Germany's Bavarian Forest, in the Czech Republic, in Poland and in Slovakia — but this will be the first of its kind in Canada.

The CIMES Trail, as it's being called, is located on the site of a former fish farm in Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré.

"We are very proud to give new life to the historic site of the former fish farm," said Marc L'Heureux, reeve of the MRC des Laurentides. 

The CIMES Trail is scheduled to open by the summer of 2022.
