As spring finally makes its long-awaited return — breathing new life into Montreal — 'tis truly the season to up Montreal park game before the sweltering days of summer make it difficult to sit out in the sun all day long.

With May right around the corner, Montreal is set to transform into its best self with lush greenery and blooming trees, including tons of gorgeous cherry blossoms, magnolias and crab apples across the city that you simply must witness up close and personal.

Luckily, Montreal is home to countless parks that make embracing spring's return both easy and beautiful. From all corners of the city, here are five Montreal parks that are a total must-visit this spring season.

Westmount Park

Where: 327 av. Melville (directly off of rue Sherbrooke O.)

Why You Need To Go: Spanning avenue Melville to avenue Lansdowne in Westmount, this park is a stunning spot to catch the city's cherry blossoms and magnolias in bloom. Today, the 26-acre park contains a wading pool, an extensive playground, beautiful floral plantings, three baseball diamonds, a playing field, and clay and hard-surface tennis courts. Not to mention you're also steps away from the Westmount Recreation Centre, which includes two underground ice rinks, activity rooms and the municipal swimming pool, as well as the Public Library and Victoria Hall Community Centre in the northwest corner of the park.

Botanical Garden

Where: 4101, rue Sherbrooke E.

Why You Need To Go: April showers bring May flowers, and for those wanting to see the blossoms right as they happen in Montreal, the Botanical Garden is a sure spot for a good view. In spring, Montreal's Botanical Garden comes bursting to life with colourful blooms, offering a refreshing and tranquil escape from the city. Guests can also explore themed gardens filled with seasonal flowers, and enjoy the atmosphere of nature's awakening.

Parc René-Lévesque

Where: 398, ch. du Canal

Why You Need To Go: Located on chemin du Canal, Parc René-Lévesque offers gorgeous views of the St. Lawrence River, the South Shore (Châteauguay and Kahnawake) and Lac Saint-Louis, all of which can be enjoyed from the stunning lookout area. A popular spring and summer spot, the Lachine lookout is open all year round and offers panoramic views of Montreal's coastline. The tip of the peninsula is the quintessential sunset spot where you can enjoy a picnic, a stroll with that special someone, or a solo moment to unwind and gaze into the distance.

Parc Angrignon

Where: 3400, boul. des Trinitaires

Why You Need To Go: If you're hoping to get a glimpse of the lush greenery making its long-awaited return, then Parc Angrignon is a superior spot to witness the spring bloom in person. Spread across 97 hectares, Parc Angrignon is known for its forested areas, open clearings, and tranquil 1.1 km lake. A perfect park for walks, visitors can also enjoy playgrounds and a designated dog park within the park's boundaries.

Parc Notre-Dame-de-Grâce

Where: 3500, av. Girouard

Why You Need To Go: Nestled in the heart of Montreal's Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood, Parc Girouard, the unofficial name given to Parc Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, is the perfect spot for a spring stroll, your morning walk or a weekend afternoon with the family. There's a dog park, pavilion, drinking fountains, picnic areas and washrooms on-site, making it easy to spend the day.
