Quebec Is Capping Off 2020 With Another Single-Day Record For New COVID-19 Cases

On the last day of the chaotic mayhem that was 2020, Quebec has broken yet another single-day record for new COVID-19 cases, recording an increase of 2,819 cases on December 30. The previous record was 2,511 new cases on December 29.

This surge in cases has brought the total number of Quebecers infected with the virus above the 200,000 mark to 202,641, with 172,047 residents having recovered.

2,819 New COVID-19 cases recorded in Quebec on December 30

The province also reported 62 new COVID-related deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in Quebec to 8,226. 

Twenty-two of those deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, with 29 having occurred between December 24 and 29. Seven occurred before December 24 and four occurred at an unknown date.

Quebec hospitals are currently treating 1,175 patients for COVID-19. Among these, 165 patients are in intensive care.

Quebecers aged 20 to 29 continue to make up the largest portion of COVID-19 cases in Quebec, at 15.4 percent. 

The province's health workers have administered 6,857 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in Montreal since it was approved for public use, and 29,250 doses total across all of Quebec.
