As of Friday, September 11, all Quebec bars are required to keep a log of all customers who enter their establishments, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

"This practice, which was already encouraged, aims to further facilitate the identification of contacts by public health authorities in the event of contamination," the ministry says.

As of today, karaoke activities held in public places such as bars, rented rooms or community halls must be suspended.

Quebec Ministry Of Health & Social Services

Quebec has also officially banned karaoke. The Corporation des Propriétaires de Bars, Brasseries et Tavernes du Québec (CPBBTQ) first shared the news with MTL Blog on Thursday.

The ministry is citing "several risk factors" associated with karaoke, "such as the projection of respiratory droplets when people sing, the proximity between participants, and the sharing of common objects, including microphones."

The decision comes after a major outbreak was traced back to one Quebec City bar.
