A viral video depicting Quebec's very own 'Billy Karaoke' interrupting Premier François Legault's press conference has made waves on social media — but as it turns out, it's not real. At least, according to the government, it's not.

The video, published on Billy's Instagram on May 12, has garnered over 28,000 views. It shows him replacing the Quebec Sign Language (QSL) interpreter and singing karaoke — albeit muted — while someone tries to forcibly remove him.

As of Friday, September 11, all Quebec bars are required to keep a log of all customers who enter their establishments, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

"This practice, which was already encouraged, aims to further facilitate the identification of contacts by public health authorities in the event of contamination," the ministry says.

Bad news for karaoke fans, good news for those who can't stand it: Quebec is expected to ban karaoke soon, a representative from La Corporation des Propriétaires de Bars, Brasseries et Tavernes du Québec (CPBBTQ) told MTL Blog.

CPBBTQ spokesperson Jean Jacques Beauchamp said the association's president, Renaud Poulin, was informed of the decision by government officials Thursday morning — and that the organization was not consulted beforehand.
