At a press conference on Tuesday, Premier François Legault and his colleagues in public health updated citizens on the status of Quebec's red zones.

The premier announced that all of Montérégie, the Centre-du-Québec, and all of the Capitale-Nationale (including Charlevoix) are going into red alert.

Legault said measures for these new red zone regions will gradually take effect this week.

The contagion seems to have stopped increasing but we must remain very cautious.

Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean is also moving into the orange zone.

The premier mentioned that even though the trend of new cases seems to have stabilized, people must still be vigilant.

He mentioned that the daily case counts are still somewhere between 800 and 1,000 new cases per day and he hopes that it won't increase any further than that. 

The virus is still spreading in red zones due to close contacts, however, said Legault, further underlining that "a minority of people are affecting the majority of people."

He made clear that "the most important thing to do is to reduce indoor gatherings."

As of October 12, 2020, there has been a cumulative total of 87,791 COVID-19 cases in Quebec.
