Almost a month after Gisèle Lévesque became the first Quebecer to get a COVID-19 vaccine dose,* a report from the Journal de Montréal indicates that the 89-year-old had the disease in recent weeks.

The Journal says she experienced symptoms around two weeks after her first dose. Lévesque told the publication she's almost recovered.

At the time she received the first dose,* the resident of the CHSLD Saint-Antoine in Quebec City said she was "very proud" to be the first in the province. 

She also encouraged all Quebecers to get vaccinated when they can.

"Respect the health rules and respect the vaccine, most importantly, so that the virus disappears and to help everyone get through this," she said in a video shared by the Ministry of Health.

"I'm positive that it will get better." 

Quebec has continued to vaccinate members of the public, prioritizing health care workers and vulnerable populations.

As of January 13, 107,365 vaccine doses had been administered.

In Montreal, an effort is underway to vaccinate the homeless population.
