It seems as if winter is in full force across Quebec as we await the biggest snowstorm of the season. The snowstorm is expected to impose several meteorological hazards, including snowfall and a possible freezing rain weather warning from Environment Canada.

"A major storm is taking aim at Quebec through mid-week, with a swath of heavy snow, rain, strong winds and ice all on the table. This will be the biggest storm of the year for the province so far," The Weather Networks forecast centre indicated.

The winter storm will be a mix of a low-pressure system drawing in cold air, as well as warm and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico and a "tremendous amount of energy swinging over the Rockies," which will produce an array of hazardous weather across Canada and North America.

The Weather Network states that a "swath of heavy snow" will sweep through western and southern Quebec starting on Tuesday afternoon and evening. The heavy snowfall is set to continue well throughout the overnight hours, with a total of 30 to 40 centimetres of snow falling in regions such as the Laurentians by Wednesday afternoon.

The winter chaos doesn't end there. During the pre-dawn hours on Wednesday, there is the possibility of rain hitting Gatineau and Montreal as warmer winds push in. And that's already after being hit with between 15 to 25 centimetres of snow.

"Freezing rain and ice pellets are also possible during this transition, making for slick and icy travel conditions during the Wednesday morning commute," The Weather Network report said.

Quebec City will be hit with roughly 15 to 25 centimetres of snow while the Eastern Townships will see warmer temperatures and roughly five to 10 centimetres of snow and five to 10 millimetres of rain — creating nothing short of a sloppy wet mess.
