Folks in Montreal might not always agree on politics, parking rules, or where to get the best bagel, but there's one thing we seem to be getting right: happiness. According to a brand new Léger study, Montreal is officially one of the happiest big cities in Canada

Léger has just released its 2025 Happiness Index and out of Canada's 10 largest cities, Montreal ranks second in overall well-being, with a happiness score of 69.4 out of 100. Only Mississauga scored higher, at 70.3. Both cities sit above the national average, which Léger pegs at 68.7.

A recent ranking of the happiest provinces in Canada just dropped and Quebec's score is a lot better than you'd expect.

Despite ongoing language laws, lack of of accessible healthcare, a teacher shortage and dwindling infrastructure, Quebec was not only ranked among the happiest provinces in Canada, but it ranked as the happiest province in Canada. Yup, that's right. La belle province is (allegedly) the happiest province in Canada, and we're just as surprised as you are.

The 2024 World Happiness Report is out, and Canada is grappling with a dip in spirits, landing at 15th place on the global joy index. Canadian youth, in particular, don't seem to be finding much to smile about these days.

The ranking, determined by factors like social support, income, health, freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption, serve as a broad gauge of national well-being. The results are based on an analysis of Gallup World Poll data, going beyond economic success to see what contributes to a country's collective smile. Results are based on a three-year average, which can lead to some surprising results, especially in the face of recent conflict.

March 20 is the International Day of Happiness, and things are pretty good in Canada. Though they could be better. The latest World Happiness Report (WHR) ranked Canada the 13th happiest country in the world. The U.S. trails by two spots in 15th place.

The annual report is based on data from the Gallup World Poll. Poll respondents are asked to rate their life on a scale from one to 10, 10 representing their idea of the "best possible life." Report authors say they collect about 1,000 such "life evaluations" from each country, weigh them to create national averages, and then rank countries based on three-year averages of those averages.

Despite Canada being ranked the number one country in the world in 2021 by U.S News, it seems we've taken a hit when it comes to our happiness in 2022. According to the World Happiness Report, Canada took a "substantial" fall from our previous placement, sparking a lot of questions as to what happened to Canada's happiness.

The World Happiness Report is published by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network and ranks the happiest countries using a survey in more than 150 nations.
