Montreal police arrested 15 people and issued 60 tickets following last night's hockey game, which saw the Montreal Canadiens eliminate the Vegas Golden Knights and advance to the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 1993.

The game also happened to fall on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, days ahead of Montreal becoming a COVID-19 green zone, as a full strawberry supermoon illuminated the night sky.

A video taken on June 10 appears to show a Montreal police officer kneeling on the neck and back of a Black teenager while conducting an arrest. 

The SPVM told MTL Blog that officers were responding to a 911 call at the George-Vanier High School, in Montreal's Villeray neighbourhood, "because a fight was in progress involving about fifteen individuals."

On Tuesday, the Quebec government announced a $3.5-million grant to the Longueuil police service (SPAL) to test a new policing model with a number of unarmed police officers.

A press release put out by the office of Deputy Premier Geneviève Guilbault called the "Policiers RÉSO project" a "promising approach that could contribute to defining a new policing model in Quebec."

In a bizarre report published Monday, the police department of the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais details how a call regarding an alleged assault led them to discover an illegal gathering in the Quebec town of La Pêche and a story involving an alleged naked intruder. 

It all began on the night of February 20, when, according to the police report, "officers were called to intervene at the home of a 34-year-old victim in a case of assault causing injuries" following "an altercation occurred at a nearby cottage."

In a meeting on December 9, 2020, the Montreal City Council voted down an amendment that would have funded body cameras for Montreal police officers. Fowl news. Butters, a wild turkey who brought joy to pandemic-weary Montrealers with his camera-friendly personality, died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night, according to posts on the Butters NDG fan page.

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but our beloved Butters life has been cut short,” states a post on the page from January 28. “I witnessed his demise on the corner of Westminster & Cote Saint Luc road about 20 minutes ago.”
