Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB)'s Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion issued over 100 recommendations in the final report, which was created after two students at John Rennie High School were seen wearing blackface and using racist language last year.

Starting in September, all high school students in Quebec will have five extra hours of school time each week for extracurricular activities.

Minister of Education Isabelle Charest made the announcement in a June 18 press conference. She said schools in Quebec will decide what to offer during the daily extracurricular school hour, as well as when to offer it during the day.

Indigenous people can now reclaim their traditional names on official travel and immigration documents such as Canadian passports. 

In 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action number 17 called on the government to "enable residential school Survivors and their families to reclaim names changed by the residential school system by waiving administrative costs for a period of five years." This action was finally adopted on June 14, 2021.

Trudeau said his party introduced legislation to create the "National Day for Truth and Reconciliation" to "commemorate the legacy of residential schools."

Officials are aiming for the "most normal possible start to the school year for students and staff."

Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) — which is Quebec's largest K-12 English school board, covering the area between Verdun and Hudson — has banned the N-word after passing a resolution on March 22.

The resolution says the N-word "must never be uttered within the confines" of the board's schools and centres, calling it derogatory, denigrating and harmful to the LBPSB community.
