The best countries in the world for education were ranked and Canada has much to be proud of.

U.S. News & World Report listed the top countries with the strongest educational infrastructure in 2023 and Canada managed to make the top five.

The publication took into consideration whether a country has a well-developed public education system, whether people attend university and if that country has top-quality universities. Additionally, in order to establish the ranking, U.S. News surveyed more than 17,000 people and highlighted countries according to respondents' perceptions.

"The strength of a country’s educational infrastructure points to what the nation offers not only to its own people but to the world as well. Some nations shine brightest for their reputations in this area," U.S. News said.

The United States ranked first overall — marking no change from its 2022 placement. As for Canada, the true north ranked fourth worldwide, proving our education system is top-notch. In fact, Canada also ranked fourth in 2022.

When rankings drop of the best universities in the world, Canadian institutions such as the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia and McGill University often come up, so it's no surprise that Canada was ranked as one of the best countries for education. Not to mention Canadian universities often rank highest in categories relating to fields such as medicine, research and technology.

The United Kingdom ranked second, while Germany took the third spot. France was ranked next — rounding off the top five.
