4 Montreal Areas Have Among The Highest Rates Of COVID-19 Cases In Quebec, Legault Says

In a press conference Tuesday, Quebec Premier François Legault named four Montreal areas that, with more than 450 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants, he said had among the highest rates of active COVID-19 cases in Quebec.

The four areas consist of multiple neighbourhood and borough groupings: Saint-Léonard and Saint-Michel, Ahuntsic and Montréal-Nord, Nord-de-l'Île and Saint-Laurent, and Rivière-des-Prairies, Anjou and Montréal-Est.

These are the only places in all of Quebec where we have more than 450 active cases per 100,000 residents.

According to data from the regional public health authority, Montréal-Est currently has a rate of 1,039 cases per 100,000 people for the past 14 days, the highest in the Montreal region. 

The premier underlined the importance of getting tested when symptoms arise, especially in these areas of the island.

He said officials are going to increase testing and that it's possible residents of these boroughs and neighbourhoods would be asked to get tested even if they don't have symptoms.

Meanwhile, the situation in the rest of Quebec, he continued, seems to be improving.

Quebec reported 1,386 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.
