Quebecers Are Marching To End Domestic Violence In 21 Cities & Towns On Friday

Marches against conjugal violence and femicides in Quebec are taking place across the province on April 2 after eight Quebec women died due to domestic violence in the past eight weeks.

"Behind each of these murdered women, there are thousands of others who live in fear on a daily basis," reads the Facebook event page. "The safety of women and children is everyone's business."

The marches, called Pas une de plus! - Mobilisation contre la violence conjugale, were organized by Regroupement des maisons pour femmes victimes de violence conjugale, L'R, Fédération des maisons d'hébergement pour femmes, L'Alliance des maisons d'hébergement de 2e étape and local actress Ingrid Falaise. They're being held in 21 cities and municipalities.

The organizers ask that protestors pin a white ribbon to their jackets or masks, draw a white ribbon on their signs and be prepared to leave a trace of those ribbons in public spaces.

For Quebecers who cannot attend a protest in their respective city or municipality, the organizers ask that they place a white ribbon on their doors, cars or windows in a display of solidarity.

Over 6,000 people have responded to the Facebook event. The organizers say masks will be mandatory and COVID-19 public health protocols will be respected.
