François Legault Had An English Slip-Up While Calling Out People For Not Speaking French
Even the premier can't escape Anglicisms.

François Legault had a bit of an English slip-up during a Q&A portion of a press conference at the l'Assemblée nationale on February 8, 2024.
The Quebec premier was seemingly discussing how the youth of today think it's okay to use Anglicisms or to speak in English, not realizing he'd just used an English word.
"Il y a des jeunes, malheureusement, qui trouvent ça cool de sortir des mots an anglais ou de se parler en anglais," Legault said in French, with the exception of his use of "cool."
The English translation is as follows: "There are youths, unfortunately, who find it cool to use English words or to speak in English."
The crowd, which was made up of Quebec deputies, immediately erupted in laughter, with Legault seeming to be the only one who didn't catch on to his mistake.
Legault appeared confused at first, wondering why the room began to chuckle, only to then recognize his error. Legault went from being dazed to brushing his use of English off with a few laughs himself.
Despite the Premier of Quebec stressing the importance of the French language throughout the province, it appears as if Legault should practice what he preaches a bit more.
The internet was quick to comment on the English flub with one X user sharing past posts of Legault's on the social media platform of him using other Anglicisms such as "lift," and "gang."
Even Montreal comic Sugar Sammy joined in on the fun. "As François Legault would say: Sh*t!" Sammy wrote.
