I tried McDonald's new 'remix' burgers and this one is my new favourite menu item

I'm almost sad it's only available for a limited-time.

McDonald's Canada has officially unveiled four new menu items inspired by popular foodie hacks, including three new burgers and a brand new McFlurry flavour.

McDonald's has labelled the new release as the "Remix Menu," which "brings guests' twists on classic menu items [...] inspired by their own fun and innovative 'hacked remixes of their favourite orders."

The new "Remix" menu items include the Chicken Cheeseburger, which incorporates a chicken patty, beef patty, cheese, ketchup, mustard, pickles and onions, as well as the Surf N' Turf Burger, made up of two beef patties and a Filet-O-Fish patty topped with two cheese slices, onion, pickles and ketchup and mustard.

The final burger is the Sweet Chili Junior Chicken, a crispy chicken patty topped with shredded lettuce, sweet chili Thai sauce and mayonnaise.

And for dessert…the Apple Pie McFlurry. With so many people combining the pie and the soft serve, McDonald's made it a limited-time menu item.

Now, while I love myself a McFlurry, I opted to stick with trying out the burgers and burgers only. As someone who loves a classic McDonald's cheeseburger and Junior Chicken sandwich, I was very excited to test these "remixed" burgers out — and slightly worried about how I'd react to the Surf N' Turf Burger, as I am not a fan of the McDonald's Filet-O-Fish.

I decided to compare the three based on flavour, texture and price to see which of the three new burgers are worth getting. And there was definitely a clear winner.

The packaging is pretty neat, not going to lie. The use of the red, purple and yellow colours for each of the new burgers definitely made the experience a bit more exciting, considering this is the first time McDonald's is rolling out the limited-edition "remix menu" items. And who doesn't love a good remix, right?

But…how did they taste?

First up was the McDonald's Chicken Cheeseburger, which was the one "remix" burger I was looking forward to enjoying most, and well… I didn't.

The burger was way too dry and needed a lot more ketchup and mustard than the mere drop or two of sauce that was initially added. Not to mention there was only a singular pickle in my sandwich.

I found myself dipping the burger into my own ketchup to get a bit more of a juicier bite, and while that certainly did the trick, the burger was still lacklustre and didn't offer that punch of flavour or crunch I was hoping for. And for over five bucks? No thanks.

Next up was the Surf N' Turf burger. This one I was most worried to try since I am not a fan of the Filet-O-Fish whatsoever. But, turns out McDonald's got it right with this combination.

Perhaps it was due to the absence of the tartar sauce but the fish filet blended smoothly with the double beef patty and cheese, so much so that I found myself going in for another bite immediately after the first.

Thankfully, this bad boy also had enough sauce on it to ensure it wasn't at all dry. Oh, and it had more than one pickle. Now, while I won't be trying a Filet-O-Fish solo any time soon, I just might give the Surf N' Turf burger from McDonald's another go while I can.

The only downside is the price. While a nearly $7 burger isn't awfully expensive, it's a rather pricier menu item considering it doesn't come with French fries or a fountain drink.

Sweet Chili Junior Chicken

As someone who can down two Junior Chickens in a single sitting, it's safe to say I was most excited to give the Sweet Chili Junior Chicken Burger from McDonald's a try.

Considering the spicy kick that already comes out of a Junior Chicken, thanks to the seasoned patty, the chili sauce upped the ante in the best possible way.

The creaminess from the chili sauce and the mayo matched perfectly with the crunchiness of the lettuce and chicken patty, creating what can only be best described as total burger heaven.

While I opted to take a bite or two of the previous two burgers, this Sweet Chili Junior Chicken Burger was the only one out of the three that I finished immediately. Each bite was packed with flavour — none of which overpowered each other — and what I loved most was that it was just the right amount of spicy, too. Oh, and the $4 cost ain't too shabby, either.
