Montreal's First 'Significant' Snowfall Is Expected Sunday... Maybe Stay Inside

Environment Canada has released a weather alert for Metro Montreal and Laval, calling attention to a "significant snowfall" Sunday evening, beginning in late afternoon.

While we've already seen brief periods of light flurries this season, Sunday's snowfall is expected to result in five to 15 centimetres, or more, depending on where you live.

"Snowfall amounts could exceed 15 centimetres for regions north of the St-Lawrence River. Regions near the St-Lawrence River are expected to receive 5 to 10 centimetres," reads the statement.

5 - 15  Centimetres of snow expected in the Montreal area on Sunday

For regions near the Saint-Lawrence River, the snow is expected to change to rain later in the night.

Environment Canada is also warning people on the North Shore and in the Laurentians to watch out for freezing rain during this period.

With winds up to 15 km/h and a wind chill of minus 10 in the morning, you might want to plan to stay inside on Sunday — depending what you're into.

Hot cocoa and a good book could get you through the day.

Monday will be rainy, but at least it's supposed to go up to 8° C. After Sunday's weather, that'll feel like a summer paradise.
