Halle Berry's In Montreal, But How Can Celebs Still Come To Canada To Film? Here’s The Law

You've probably heard by now that Halle Berry is in Montreal to film her new movie, Moonfall. You may be thinking, "Wow! That's so cool!" But you're also probably thinking, "How was she able to cross the border?"

The process that Berry personally underwent to enter the country is unclear and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) would not comment on specific cases.

However, it did share the more general requirements for foreign nationals coming to Canada from the U.S. for employment purposes, like filming a movie.

Continued vigilance and enforcement of restrictions at the border is critical to protect Canadians.

Rebecca Purdy, Senior Spokesperson, Canada Border Services Agency

Order in Council 2020-0795 outlines restrictions and protocols for these foreign nationals who are not family members of citizens or permanent residents of Canada.

While CBSA spokesperson Rebecca Purdy made clear that "all travel of an optional or discretionary nature" is currently banned, she said that "seeking entry for the purpose of employment may be considered as non-discretionary."

It's up to the foreign national to provide documentation to "demonstrate and substantiate why they need to be in Canada to carry out the employment activity."

Anyone attempting to enter the country is also asked if they are feeling sick.

Decisions about entry "are made on a case-by-case basis and are informed by the individual circumstances of each traveller," Purdy said.

Once a traveller is in Canada, of course, they must enter a 14-day quarantine.

Berry indicated in an Instagram post that she's currently completing that requirement and trying to live her "best life" while stuck indoors
