In a new poll by the Angus Reid Institute, over half of Quebec respondents said that Canada should reach a vaccination rate of at least 75% before opening the U.S. border. 

With many Canadians already envisioning a life post-COVID-19, the poll found that a "vast majority (69%)" are willing to wait it out until "at least three-quarters" of the country are fully vaccinated before opening the border to travel.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized "approximately 112.5 kg of suspected cocaine" from a truck they say was driven by a Quebec resident as he entered Canada from the United States at Fort Erie, Ontario.

According to a press release, "the CBSA arrested Pardeep Singh, and transferred him and the suspected cocaine under the custody of RCMP officers" following the discovery on June 15.

Deputy Premier Geneviève Guilbault has announced that the Quebec-Ontario border is reopening this week. 

"On Wednesday, our border with Ontario will reopen. We are counting on the collaboration of Ontario visitors so that they comply with the health rules in force in the various zones of Quebec," Guilbault wrote in a Twitter post.

In a June 1 press conference, Quebec Premier François Legault said he hopes that the Canada-United States border will stay closed until at least the end of August.

The premier said he had a telephone meeting on the issue with the rest of the premiers and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week, but Canada's provinces are currently divided on their approach to reopening the border.

Starting today, almost all travellers returning to Canada by land have to show proof of a COVID-19 test when arriving at the border.

The test must either be a negative COVID-19 molecular test (such as a PCR test, which is typically taken using a swab inserted into a person’s nose or throat) taken within 72 hours of arriving at the U.S.-Canada land border, or a positive test taken 14 to 90 days before arrival.
