Taste Atlas released its annual ranking of the 100 Best Cuisines in the World and Canada's score is the best it's ever been.

Taste Atlas based its ranking on 395,205 dish ratings and over 115,000 food product ratings, narrowing the best of the best down to over 90 worldwide cuisines. So, how did Canada do? The true north managed to place 43rd overall.

Canada, which is known for a few signature dishes including poutine, Beaver Tails, and smoked meat, saw a delectable climb of 49 spots this year after placing 92nd in 2022 — proving that Canada's foodie scene is improving.

A few notable mentions of some of Canada's best-rated foods include Oka cheese, Yukon gold potato, maple syrup, maple butter, Montreal-style bagels and of course, the iconic cheese, fries and gravy trio.

In fact, Montreal restaurants, including Ma Poule Mouillée, Schwartz's, Fairmount Bagel, La Banquise and Tri Express, all landed in the top spots — making it clear Montreal's food scene is likely the reason we even placed on the list to begin with.

Sweden (44), the Netherlands (45), and Morocco (46) all placed after Canada, but who landed in the top spots?

Italy, Japan and Greece made up the top three, which doesn't come as a surprise considering the endless number of delish dishes these countries are known for. Spanish cuisine landed in the top three in 2022, however, it has since dropped down to ninth.

Wondering which other global cuisine made the cut? Here's the complete top 10 of the best cuisines in the world, per Taste Atlas:

  1. Italian
  2. Japanese
  3. Greek
  4. Portuguese
  5. Chinese
  6. Indonesian
  7. Mexican
  8. French
  9. Spanish
  10. Peruvian
