The Royal Canadian Mint has released a brand new $20 coin made up of 99.99% pure silver and it features a massive grizzly bear.

The $20 fine silver Ultra High Relief coin titled Great Hunters: Grizzly Bear was released in 2023 with a mintage of only 6,000 coins across the world.

Considering the grizzly bear, also known as the Ursus arctos horribilis, has been a long-time symbol of strength and Canada's wild spaces, and is known for its reputation of being a skilled hunter and scavenger, the Royal Canadian Mint wrote on its website.

An animal known for being strong and intelligent and instantly commanding all our attention and respect is captured brilliantly in Ultra High Relief (UHR) and in 99.99% pure silver, as seen on this coin.

The reverse of the Canadian coin, which was designed by Emily Damstra, features a massive grizzly bear standing atop a cliff amidst Canada's forests. The low perspective combined with the Ulta High Relief, emphasized the bear's massive size and appearance.

Additionally, the design includes multiple frostings, which alter the way the light reflects off the different design elements of the coin. This ultimately creates a more realistic rendering of both the grizzly bear and its surroundings, the Mint said.

The obverse of the coin features a maple leaf pattern behind the effigy of the late queen Elizabeth II, which was designed by Susanna Blunt. The obverse also bears a special marking that includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date of her reign.

The coin itself weighs 31.39 grams and has a diameter of 36.15 mm. Although it does have a face value of $20, you will have to dish out a bit more to get your hands on one of these collectors' coins. The Great Hunters: Grizzly Bear can be purchased on the Royal Canadian Mint website for $139.95.

Many Canadians have already added the stunning silver coin to their collection, raving over the quality. "I have been looking for a coin in memory of my father and I finally found it. This Ultra High Relief was perfect. The quality and look is out of this world," one happy customer wrote on the Mint's website.

"I have the coin in hand and it is very appealing. Always been a fan of UHR and EHR coins, but the way they used a glossy finish on the clouds contrasting with the frosted details of the bear and woods is very unique and lends a more three-dimensional aspect to the coin," another coin collector said.
