Food in Montreal: A New Cookie Croissant, Sparkling Ramadan Sweets & AYCE Sugar Shack Brunch
This week, Montreal is all about new and aesthetic food experiences. Teasers on the menu include the viral "crookie," gorgeous themed sweets for the month of Ramadan, the cheapest Dairy Queen Blizzard of the year, and an all-you-can-eat maple-infused brunch. The only thing better than reading about these delicacies is tasting them yourself.
Here are this week's highlights for new and special eats:
Sparkling Ramadan-themed sweets

In the spirit of Ramadan, Café VSL of rainbow-latté fame has rolled out a lineup of stunning sugar cookies that are as festive as they are delicious. Shaped like crescents, hearts, flowers, and more, the glittering treats come in regular sizes at $2.95 a pop, and in mini form for $2.45 a stack.
Made fresh in-house, the cookies are vegetarian and halal-friendly, ticking all the boxes for inclusive holiday snacking. They're available all month long, both at the café and on order, Plus, you can pair them with a rose latté or Moroccan tea for a comforting caffeine boost.
$1 Dairy Queen Blizzards
When: March 11 to March 31
Winter is on its way out, but Dairy Queen's Blizzard season is just kicking off. This month you can get their famous Blizzard Treat for $1. The promotion applies to the small size of the dessert, famous since 1985 for being served upside down — a unique Dairy Queen tradition.

Montreal has a new obsession: the "crookie." The ingenious creation fuses the flaky, butter-laden indulgence of a traditional croissant with the homey, chocolate-studded comfort of a classic cookie.
You're spoilt for choice as several city bakeries, like Café Coco and Bean, offering their own version of the hybrid pastry. Sophie Sucrée is even catering to the vegan crowd with a dairy-free version. With so many to pick from, you might have to do a city-wide taste test to find your favourite.
All-you-can-eat sugar shack brunch
Where: Marché Artisan, 900, boul. René-Lévesque Ouest
Cost: $39/person (half off for kids 6 to 12 years old)
Marché Artisans is celebrating maple season with a special sugar shack brunch every Saturday and Sunday through April 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Helmed by chef Mathieu Couture and award-winning pastry chef Jean-Marc Guillot, the all-you-can-eat buffet serves a classic Québécois banquet drenched in maple goodness.
On Easter Sunday, March 31, the spread will turn extra lavish, with leg-of-lamb carving and taffy-on-snow for $44 per person. You don't need to book in advance, so you can slide in like a syrup-covered pancake — first come, first served.
