Environment Canada Has Issued A Winter Storm Warning For Montreal
Winter is really amping up as a winter storm is set to hit Quebec with some regions expecting a whopping 40 centimetres of snow.
Despite being hit with our fair share of snow over the weekend, Montreal is now anticipating even more snowfall and the possibility of freezing rain. In fact, Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Greater Montreal Area.
"A major storm will reach Southern Quebec this afternoon," Environment Canada said. Montrealers can expect around 15 centimetres more of snow well into Tuesday night, as well as ice pellets and very strong winds.
A period of freezing rain is also in the forecast for late Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning before the precipitation changes to rain, the federal weather agency indicated.
Considering Montreal and its surrounding areas are set to receive major snowfall, this could make road conditions and travel difficult "over some locations," EnviroCan said.
"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve." The federal agency is now urging Montrealers to consider postponing any non-essential travel plans until conditions improve.
According to The Weather Network, Tuesday is set to reach a high of minus seven degrees Celsius with a "feels like" factor of minus 14. As the snow turns to rain, temperatures will follow suit. Wednesday will see a high of five degrees Celsius with roughly five millimetres of rain throughout the day.
Stay safe, Montreal.
