The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled a brand new $20 coin and it's not a piece you'd find in your everyday coin collection.

The new Canadian coin is titled The Sapphire Jubilee Snowflake Brooch and marks the very first coin part of the Mint's new Crown Jewels collection.

The Sapphire Jubilee Snowflake Brooch was given to the late Queen Elizabeth II back in 2017 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation and the 65th anniversary of her reign as Queen of Canada.

The new coin's reverse, crafted by Roytasl Canadian Mint engravers, is an interpretation of the Sapphire Jubilee Snowflake Brooch. Shaped like a snowflake, the rhodium-plated embellishment is encrusted with royal blue glass stones. The stones are elevated from the coin itself, giving it a three-dimensional appearance.

The royal blue glass stones stand in for the precious sapphires found on the original brooch. According to the Royal Canadian Mint, these stones are paid with cast elements that help re-create the look of the diamond-and-sapphire piece of jewelry.

Furthermore, the coin has a matte-proof finish, which allows the brooch to shine brought on its reverse. As for the obverse of the coin, collectors will be able to spot the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.

The coin is made up of 99.99% pure silver and has a weight of 31.39 grams and a diameter of 38 millimetres. Mintage is limited to 6,500 coins and this one will likely sell out quickly, like previous crown-and tiara-themed coins.

While the coin is worth $20, it will cost you more than that to get your hands on it. Canadian coin collectors can purchase the coin on the Royal Canadian Mint website for $164.95.

Once purchased, your coin is encapsulated and presented in a black Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell case with a black beauty box.
