Summer in Montreal is known for its non-stop festivals, new terrasse openings and weekend park hangouts. Oh, and not to mention…roads trips. Lots and lots of road trips.

For those hoping to venture out of Montreal this summer can opt for one of Canada's most beautiful towns only a two-hour drive from Montreal.

Culture Trip, an online travel companion for booking tours, transport and accommodation, created a list of 20 of the Most Beautiful Towns and Villages in Canada, and while a handful of Quebec destinations made the cut, there's one just outside of la belle province that is well worth the visit.

Merrickville, Ontario was ranked among the most beautiful towns in the country, and it's only a skip and a hop away from Montreal.

Nestled along the picturesque Rideau Canal, Merrickville was named "Canada's most beautiful village" in 1998 by Communities in Bloom, and now it's gaining a new accolade thanks to Culture Trip.

Merrickville is perfect for a summer road trip, offering delightful sights such as heritage buildings, the Merrickville-Limerick Trail, and the Merrickville Ruins loop, showcasing old mills and factory sites.

Visitors can also enjoy the village's quaint shops and cafés, like Country Bumpkins for souvenirs and Pickle and Myrrh for delicious fudge and sea salt caramels.

Don't miss The Goose & Gridiron, a cozy pub with classic fare, and the Wick Witch Apothecary for unique candles and bath products.

So…pack your bags, get the car ready and road trip away.
