Police Say They Caught A 12-Year-Old Driving A Car Down A Quebec Highway

At around 4 p.m. on January 20, a 12-year-old boy was found driving a car down route 105 south by la Sûreté du Québec (SQ) de l'Outaouais.

The police allegedly received a call to say that the boy had been seen operating the vehicle by himself, and they tried to intervene, according to Catherine Bernard, a representative from la Sûreté.

There are no accusations in that file because the boy is 12-years-old and a minor.

Bernard explained to MTL Blog that the car was supposedly taken from the town of Gracefield, about an hour and 15 minutes north of Gatineau, and found in Low, about half an hour south of Gracefield.

Although police apparently tried to get the boy to stop the vehicle, he refused, according to the representative.

The boy then allegedly continued to drive down highway 5, and the police used stop tape in Wakefield, about 20 minutes south of Low, and eventually stopped the car, says Bernard.

We're told that there were no accidents or injuries.

As for whether or not the kid will be charged, Bernard says that the boy has been returned to his family.

La Direction de la protection de la jeunesse has been advised of the case, but because the person in question is a minor, la Surêté du Québec says no charges have been filed against the kid.
