At a press conference on Tuesday, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé announced that pharmacies in Montreal will be able to administer COVID-19 vaccine doses.

350 pharmacies on Montreal Island will take appointments starting on March 15 but "not before," stressed Dubé. As of March 2, vaccine dose appointments are open to people aged 70 and up in the Montreal region.

"We're very very pleased to announce that we will work with [pharmacies] in the Montreal area," said Dubé. "People will be able to be vaccinated in pharmacies."

The health minister explained the government aims to "intensify" the vaccination campaign in regions where COVID-19 virus variants "are more present."

Dubé added that around 17,000 people got their first vaccine dose on the first day of mass vaccinations on March 1.
